Overcoming Obstacles: Justin and Lindsay's Decade-Long Ride Together

Today, Justin is recovering from an unfortunate occurrence with a car and an oblivious driver. Luckily, he only suffered from a slight concussion, a fractured wrist, a sprained wrist, and bruised ribs. He contributes the outcome of lesser injuries, however not any less painful, to his smart practice of wearing a full face enduro helmet and moto protection for the knees, spine, elbows and shoulders. But, this isn't where their story begins. Not at all.

Justin shares his story.

"Lindsay and I have been dating for 10 years and most of those pictures are from our anniversary trip to Bolinas. Our first proper hang out was a bike trip together and we’ve been trying to cycle as much as we can since. We ride for fun, transportation, energy conservation, environmental preservation, to save money, and to show people it’s possible. I grew up mountain biking and got back into biking with fixed gear riding and eventually fixed gear freestyle, bmx, and back into mountain biking. "

"Now my favorite thing is to explore my region by going on ebike packing trips. We call it 'bike couturing' (like glamping but for bike packing) since we have the Photons as it’s easier to go further and pack all our gear. It’s nice being able to power up through the scary stretches that are more exposed to speeding, distracted drivers. If it weren’t for the motor I probably wouldn’t be biking still. Around eight years ago I learned I have a congenital syndrome called Bertolloti’s so my spine is fused where it shouldn’t be causing hindered movement, neurological issues, pain, and weakness. It rapidly got worse so my regular rides would cause my back to seize up for at least a week. Adding the motor made it possible for me to limit the peaks of my effort so I don’t overdo ability and lose my fitness."

"Since using a motor I’ve been able to ride without a Bertolloti’s episode for over five years and I was able to surpass my goal of riding 3000 miles in a year. I’m hoping to ride even more and I’m grateful the Photon can handle the miles and your batteries have the reliable and compact capacity to make it possible to enjoy exploring by bike. Thanks for all the support!

Here’s to another 10 year!"
