Our Mission at Bicycle Motor Works
It begins with taking action. We, at Bicycle Motor Works, have launched our Recycle to Cycle Outreach Project to assist community members in desperate need of reliable transportation. Many in our community struggle to access affordable options. With the support of FEAT and local partners, we are offering our eBike expertise to those in need. This initiative allows us to make a meaningful impact, one eBike at a time.

The Link Between Transportation and Poverty
The connection between transportation and poverty is significant. Studies dating back to 2010 show a clear correlation. Transportation fosters economic growth, higher education, and social equality. It enables access to personal needs and opportunities.
Statistics indicate that owning a vehicle costs over $6,000. This figure does not even cover car loan payments or lease fees. Since the pandemic, the price of used vehicles has skyrocketed, making them nearly unaffordable for someone earning minimum wage.
Alternatives to Traditional Transportation
How about Uber or Lyft? While they provide convenient options, each ride can cost around $20 or more. This is unsustainable for anyone making minimum wage. Moreover, in regions like the Lehigh Valley, ride-sharing programs are often unreliable. They do not offer consistent transportation solutions.

The Challenges of Public Transportation
Public transportation has its limitations, too. In the Lehigh Valley, the primary service available is LANTA busing. This system is beneficial for those commuting to work within urban areas. However, rural living presents challenges. There may only be a stop or two in rural areas. Unfortunately, most warehouses, factories, and larger employers are located throughout the countryside.
The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission (LVPC) recognizes this growing problem. They are actively working to address it. The LVPC has invested time and money into research, public forums, and funding to develop their FutureLV agenda. This extensive plan aims for improvements, but results will take decades to manifest, benefiting future generations by 2050.
Immediate Solutions Through Recycle to Cycle
Our mission at Recycle to Cycle and FEAT is focused on helping the current generation. We have a straightforward objective: providing accessible transportation now.
YESTERDAY - We received requests from two established community outreach institutions for assistance.
LAST NIGHT - We organized our inventory, donating items and listing what we still need to complete two fully built eBikes.
TODAY - Our team needs your help to achieve our goals. We aim to assist two individuals with their mobility, enabling them to travel to work, school, grocery stores, and important appointments. This initiative will give these individuals a chance to improve their lives.
