Updated: 15 hours ago

Providing low-income community members reliable, sustainable, and affordable transportation - the eBike.

Bicycle Motor Works recently helped launch a community initiative, Fostering Equitable Access to Transportation "FEAT", by donating their first eBike through an established outreach institution, Cafe the Lodge located in South Bethlehem, Pa.

The First eBike

On Friday, November 8, Cafe employee, Anthony received a fully equipped eBike at no cost to him, but a promise to continue his journey towards personal growth, employement and educational opportunities. With a reliable and affordable set of wheels, he no longer has to beg for rides to work, class or miss important appointments.

It Takes a Team

It took months of collaborated efforts to make the first eBike donation happen. Research, planning and a lot of contacts helped FEAT create a project base and data collection process. Every person on the FEAT played a valuable role in the distribution of the first eBike, in which embarks the first of the hopes of many others.

The Program

FEAT currently is utilizing established outreach institution, Cafe the Lodge to find the right canidates that could benefit from our program. Cafe the Lodge, is a non-profit organization that provides community members with mental health diagnosis employment opportunities and safe lodging. FEAT's role is to be the liaison between donors and eBike recipients, by linking the recipients to the various donors to create a fully equipped eBike package. FEAT is also responsible for collecting the necessary data to report the results of the program, by requiring the recipient to complete a simple survey every 3 months for 1 full year.

The eBike Package

Bicycle Motor Works donated a fully equipped eBike, Molicel P45B Wedge eBike Battery, Master Lock, Front & Rear Headlights and Air Pump. The Coalition of Appropriate Transportation (CAT) donated a Full Smart Cycling Course, that provides the recipient (3) 2-hour Bike Safety Courses and custom-fit helmet. Bethlehem eBike donated (2) 1 hour eBike Maintenance Servicing package, that includes chain cleaning and shifter adjustment.
